Comp/ Oral Practice: This course helped me fulfill MLO 1 & 2- Language Proficiency & Linguistics. For the Fall 2017 semester, I’d have to say this was my toughest courses because I had to dedicate a lot of time outside to it. Since it’s a composition and oral practice course , we worked with different writing such as descriptive, narrative, etc… For this class, we had weekly assignments to turn in that involved writing and we had to share them through Google Docs with Dr. Oliva and a few days later we would get feedback. During class, we usually had debates about a certain topic but what Oliva really focused on was the way we expressed ourselves to others. He taught us about using more professional & sophisticated language, and using various connectors throughout our writing which helped a lot. Towards the end of the semester we had to get into groups of 2 or 3 people and choose a topic to present to the class. My partner & I choose a TED talk about the Univision journalist Jorge Ramos. We focused on various aspect of his talk and shared our findings with the class. This presentation was part of our final, the other part included research which was based off our presentation. I enjoyed doing research for my topic but also hearing the array of themes and interests of my classmates. Below I have attached my presentation.
