WLC 400: WLC Major Capstone
Course Description: Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also assemble a Graduation Portfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese, Spanish and World Languages and Cultures majors.
WLC Major Capstone: This course helped me fulfill MLO 6- Research and Technology but it also sums up what I learned in the other MLO’s for the Spanish Major. WLC 400 has been a difficult course but more than that it has been a learning experience of everything I’ve learned. This course was taught by Dr. Fernandez and Dr. Saito-Abbott. Throughout the semester I worked collaboratively with my capstone partner and our advisor in order to develop our capstone project. In the first phase of the semester we worked on our research questions and finalizing them, and also on finding reliable & accurate sources. While finding sources relating to our themes, we learned about using the CSUMB library catalog. In the second part of the semester, we began working on our literature review and in this last part we began to write our capstone paper, the purpose, methodology, etc… Overall, this course has taught me that the research part of the class takes times and sometimes the hardest thing was managing my time. As evidence I’ve provided a box summarizing how my partner and I synthesized our sources based on themes. This took place before starting the literature review and it was increasingly helpful because it helped us break down the important aspects of our literature review. The resources this course has provided me with, such as the library catalog and other activities we did in class have been helpful for my tutoring students. As a Spanish & ELL tutor I find many of these activities engaging and resourceful, not only for language but for other courses.
